Tears of a Phoenix is a pristine reflection of life’s imperfections. It is art that imitates and magnifies the lives of those whose voices are muffled and muted by their pain, shame, and fear of a life that although normal to them is abnormal to many. It is a piece of work that we hope will ignite compassion, self reflection, and inspire action.  -Tiffany Jordan

Director Statement:
In directing this piece of work, I would like to show that the cycle of pain has to stop, and in order to do so we must heal. We cannot teach when we ourselves are broken. The issues in Tears Of A Phoenix written by Tiffany Jordan, are real, raw and are unfortunate events that take place every day. If we become aware of our own trials and face them head on, we grow and heal so that we may not hurt another. If we stress the importance of verbal abuse being just as bad as the physical, we can acknowledge the wrong and begin to change. “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words could never hurt me” is the biggest lie ever told. Love, confidence, relationships, and trust, are built verbally alongside actions from when we are a child! Although we have organizations, groups, and programs, we still have broken spirits walking the pavements of this earth. If we can touch someone with this film so that they can think twice before saying something hurtful, or catching violence before it happens, or give a helping hand to someone in need then our process has begun in helping us as a community do better.  -Mo Brown
