Synopsis: 

Tears of A Phoenix is the story of Michael, a girl from Queens, NY, forced to navigate through a life of pain, ambiguity, and suppressed emotions as a means of demonstrating power. Accepting her lot in life as the daughter of a drug addicted, prostitute mother, she accepts her reality and conditions herself to simply exist, day by day.  Michael's journey towards self- validation takes her through manipulation, violence and abuse, as she learns to suppress emotions to survive. In a sea of pain through her many relationships, platonic and romantic, Michael  realizes the essence of what it means to be alive and truly love. 


 Winner of the 2013 Black Women’s Film Network Festival Audience Award , and The Katra Film Series  Audience Award and Seed & Spark Prize, ‘Tears of a Phoenix’ is a pristine reflection of life’s  imperfections. It is art that imitates and magnifies the lives of those whose voices are muffled and muted  by their pain, shame, and fear of a life that although normal to them, is abnormal to many. It is a piece of  work that we hope will ignite compassion, self reflection, and inspire action.
